You get to create all six of your party members, not just one of them. I like this a little better then having computer generated NPCs joining your party. This way, you can make what you would consider a 'perfect' character, and not be frustrated with a NPC that has fairly good stats, but a low score in something you consider vital to a charcter.

Icewind Dale is only two disks long, but it still has many quests and sub quests for your characters to undertake. Your characters gain levels very quickly in Icewind Dale (I had a cleric go up a level in the prolouge!)
